Love Inspiration Faith Eternity
Love fills our thoughts, dreams and desires. Love, as a concept, is sung about in songs, written about in poems and books, and is enshrined in major motion pictures. When we think of love we often think of romance, though it is not really the same thing. Romance is the feeling, or the emotional expressions surrounding a person that we find irresistible at the time. Romance comprises the actions of inducing another person to have positive feelings about us. Romance can take place in terrible extra-marital affairs that tear our families apart. But Love is pure. Love is from God, because God is love. In my biblical world view I have come to believe that love is not a feeling. It is a commitment. Love binds us to another person with unbreakable strength, and at the same time is tenderer than a baby’s embrace. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 says, “4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.” (NIV) In all the songs, poems, books and movies I have encountered I have never found a better definition of love than those verses.
My life is full of love, because I have made many commitments which I have kept. Broken promises are the enemies of love far more than hatred. My family means more to me than my own life. God has guided me into loving relationships, and living by His ways has kept me safe and happy in those relationships. One of my personal hero’s is the former president of a university who resigned his prestigious position to provide full time care to his wife. She has walked down the long and tortured path of degenerative disease, and he has walked every step with her. Actually he has carried her these last few years, for she can no longer walk herself. As I think of their loving relationship tears of admiration come to my eyes. That is love in its finest form. Selfless and pure love motivates us to be the best kind of people we can be toward each other.
I pray that you have experienced the enduring joy that comes from true love. If you have never found it in this world let me recommend to you the love of God. God loves you so much that he came to our world to die so that the sin that separates you from Him could be eternally removed. God loves his creation, and has made a way for you to experience His fulfilling love. I hope you’ll respond to God’s love and commit yourself to love Him in return.
